West Ham United have announced the signing of Barcelona and former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song on a season-long loan deal.

The Hammers confirmed via their official Twitter feed that the Cameroon international had linked up with Sam Allardyce’s side for the 2014/15 season, with the player unveiled at Upton Park this afternoon.

The 27-year-old had also been linked with Liverpool this summer after a difficult couple of years at the Nou Camp following his move to the club from Arsenal back in 2012. Despite failing to get regularg games during his time for Barcelona, Song had previously been regarded as one of the top midfielders in the Premier League whilst at Arsenal, and his arrival should go down as an exciting piece of business by West Ham this season. Song was not signed in time to make his debut in today’s game against Southampton, but has already been seen meeting his new fans ahead of the match.
