Reds tipped to land experienced free agent.
Liverpool are strong favourites to sign former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes on a free transfer next month, according to the Daily Mail.
The 32-year-old is out of contract and currently without a club after letting his deal at the Nou Camp run down last season, and it now looks as though he will move to the Premier League when he recovers from an injury which has held up his chance to sign for a new team in the summer.
Liverpool want to bring in another goalkeeper to challenge Simon Mignolet for the number one spot, having allowed Pepe Reina to leave the club for Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window, leaving them short of backup options between the sticks.
Valdes has previously been regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and was a key part of Barcelona’s immense success in recent years, despite a slight dip in form in his final couple of seasons at the club.
Big names such as AS Monaco were thought to be keen on signing Valdes during the summer, but a move never materialised, and he could now become the latest of many new additions to the squad at Anfield this year.
