Spanish giants wanted Blues ace.Real Madrid reportedly tried to sign Chelsea midfielder Ramires this summer as they targeted a new signing in that position, according to El Confidencial.
The Spanish giants were keen to bring in a replacement for Xabi Alonso as he left the club to sign for Bayern Munich, but couldn’t act in time to find a replacement for the former Liverpool man.
Ramires has been linked with Real several times before, and was one of the club’s three main targets to come in in defensive midfield this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain youngster Marco Verratti and Inter Milan’s Fredy Guarin also up there on Carlo Ancelotti’s list.
Still, Ramires has been a highly important player for Chelsea and seems unlikely to be one that Jose Mourinho will allow to leave very easily, even with the likes of Nemanja Matic and John Obi Mikel also to choose from in the midfield engine room.
In the end, Real mostly strengthened in attack this summer, bringing in the likes of Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez in big-money deals, as well as Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez on a season-long loan deal.
Madrid also allowed Angel Di Maria to leave the Bernabeu for a move to Old Trafford, which proved unpopular with their fans.
