Former Tottenham star Darren Anderton believes Jack Wilshere can become a world class central midfielder if he is able to stay injury free, the Daily Express reports.

The 22 year old has come in for criticism from the likes of Paul Scholes and Jamie Redknapp in recent times due to their belief that the Arsenal midfielder hasn’t improved.
Anderton himself had problems with injuries, which led to him being given the unwanted nickname, ‘sick note’. The former England international believes his former team mates have been too strong in their criticism of Wilshere and thinks the Gunner only needs a long run of games without injury to become a great player.
“If someone like Jack Wilshere can steer clear of injury for six months, he will become a world-class player,” Anderton told the Daily Star.
“I understand what Scholesy was saying. Yes, he hasn’t gone forward from the player that burst on to the scene, but some of that is down to injury.”
Anderton thinks Wilshere should use the example of team mate Aaron Ramsey, who got over injury problems early in his career and became one the most highly rated midfielders in the Premier League.
“Ramsey was out for a while with an injury, he came back, he didn’t play well for six months and the Arsenal fans were on his back, but look at him now,” Anderton added.
“The same thing can happen with Jack. He is a similar player – if not better in terms of quality.”
