Gunners plotting move for Bernabeu misfit.Arsenal have been linked with a move for Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi as an alternative to his team-mate Sami Khedira, according to Fichajes.net.
The 24-year-old only joined the club from Real Sociedad last summer, but has struggled to hold down a regular place in the side due to some vast competition for places in the middle of the park.
This could now see Arsenal make a move for him as they continue their search for a new signing in midfield, with Arsene Wenger targeting the likes of Khedira and Sporting Lisbon starlet William Carvalho for much of the recent summer transfer window.
The Gunners failed to bring anyone in, however, and look likely to be active in the market again when the opportunity presents itself in January, with Illarramendi looking a realistic target as he does not appear to be in Carlo Ancelotti’s first-team plans.
Real themselves could be looking to make some changes in that position, with the Spanish giants keen to find a replacement for Xabi Alonso after his move to Bayern Munich, and another signing would surely only push Illarramendi further down in the club’s pecking order.
