Premier League duo Chelsea and Liverpool are set to go head-to-head in the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s 18-year-old midfield sensation Julian Brandt.

Reports in the Daily Mirror claim that both have sent scouts to run the rule over the youngster this season, after the German youth international starred in his team’s excellent start to the season, scoring in the 4-2 win over Hertha Berlin.
Brandt is already rated as one of the best prospects in the Bundesliga, and the source adds that Brendan Rodgers has made a personal check on behalf of the Reds, while Jose Mourinho’s Londoners have now signalled their interest.
Liverpool signed another Leverkusen starlet, Emre Can, this summer, and could use their positive relationship with the club to boost their chances of capturing the player. Ultimately however, the Bundesliga leaders will likely sell to the highest bidder.
Brandt is under contract until 2019 and Leverkusen will likely demand a high price for one of their prize assets, despite the fact that the player only made his professional debut in February.
