The Spanish giants are supposedly planning to make some major changes to their squad after also letting a number of big names such as Angel Di Maria, Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Morata all leave this summer.

With Pepe’s contract up in 2016, Real hope to offload him as soon as possible to avoid losing him on a free transfer in two year’s time, and it may be that the experienced centre-back will attract interest from the Premier League again.

Manchester City have been strongly linked with the 31-year-old in recent times, having failed with a £25m bid to sign him this summer, before they eventually moved for Eliaquim Mangala instead.

It seems likely that Pepe will now be allowed to leave for much cheaper, though it remains to be seen what his precise asking price will be in next summer’s transfer window.

In what could be a smart move defensively, Real may be lining up a bid to sign Borussia Dortmund star Mats Hummels as Pepe’s replacement.
