Glen Johnson likely to depart Anfield at the end of the season.

Liverpool look all set to lose England international right back Glen Johnson on a free transfer at the end of the season, report the Mirror, as contract negoations between the player and his club have ground to a halt.

Johnson is currently out of the Liverpool side due to injury and, due to the form of teenager Javier Manquillo, is unlikely to immediately reclaim his place once the former Chelsea and Portsmouth man is available to return to action.

With Johnson not the most popular figure amongst the club’s supporters after some error strewn displays during the last couple of seasons, the likelihood of a move away from Anfield has continued to increase, with Johnson free to negotiate in January with clubs hoping to sign him on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Perennial Serie A champions Juventus have been strongly linked with an interest in Johnson to play as a right wing-back in their 3-5-2 system and would be able to discuss terms over a potential free transfer switch as soon as the January transfer window opens – although no deal would actually go through until the end of the season and the expiry of Johnson’s Anfield contract.
