Toure fell out with the reigning Premier League champions over the summer and has been strongly linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium ever since – with Ligue 1 duo AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain both thought to be keeping tabs.

As a result City manager Manuel Pellegrini has personally asked the hierarchy at the club to make a January approach for Ozil, with the Chilean viewing the attacking midfielder as the ideal replacement.

The 2014 World Cup winner moved to the Emirates Stadium in the summer of 2013 for a whopping £42.4m fee from Real Madrid.

However, since then Ozil has failed to truly win over the Gunners fans and prove he was worth such an expensive outlay and has been heavily linked with several moves away already.

Since arriving in North London the Germany international has played 49 times for the club in all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing 16 assists – as well as winning the FA Cup in his debut season.
