Upton Park centre-back on Emirates Stadium radar.
Arsenal are readying a January move for West Ham defender Winston Reid according to the Metro.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen to strengthen his defence and may well feel he can land the 26 year old Upton Park centre-back ‘on the cheap’ as he is into the final year of his Hammers contract.
West Ham are hoping to tie down Reid to a new deal and the fact that Sam Allardyce’s side have started the season so brightly will clearly aid in this task though a move to Arsenal may well prove very tempting for the New Zealand international.
Arsenal lost Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona over the summer and Wenger’s side have suffered with a raft of injuries that have left the north London side short at the back and as such a move for Reid is a wise one to consider.
On top of this it’s fair to say that German international Per Mertesacker hasn’t been at his best and having turned 30 it’s possible that Wenger is considering a move for a long term replacement for the World Cup winner.
