German has looked laboured and out of sorts this season and having just turned 30 he isn’t likely to see a return to the sort of form he displayed previously when part of a rock solid partnership with Laurent Koscielny. Clearly a fan favourite even the most ardent Arsenal supporter can see the World Cup winner’s shortcomings, now may be the time to consider bringing in a replacement.

Why not replace one German with another? The 25 year old is one of the best defenders in world football but his Borussia Dortmund side are moving in the wrong direction and the signs are that Hummels could be tempted into following the likes of Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski to a Westfalenstadion exit.
