Gunners & Reds compete for midfielder signing.
Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly among the teams chasing out-of-favour Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi, according to Spanish source Fichajes.com.
AC Milan are also mentioned as suitors for the deep-lying playmaker, who has struggled to make an impact at the Bernabeu since earning himself a big-money to the club from Real Sociedad last season.
Illarramendi has faced plenty of competition for places in the Real squad, with Carlo Ancelotti spoilt for choice in midfield, particularly after new signings Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez joined the club this summer.
This could mean that the 24-year-old will look elsewhere for regular first-team football, with Arsenal and Liverpool hoping to add him to their ranks this January as they seek to continue strengthening as they fight for fourth place this season.
Illarramendi has previously impressed in La Liga and could make a useful addition at either the Emirates Stadium or Anfield if he is granted a move in the near future.
Arsenal in particular are known to be chasing a signing in midfield, with Illarramendi’s Bernabeu team-mate Sami Khedira also being continually linked with the club in the last few months after rejecting the offer of a new contract.
