De Gea to wait before committing himself to Red Devils.

Manchester United face losing impressive young goalkeeper David de Gea to Real Madrid at the end of the season if they are unable to secure qualification for the Champions League, report the Daily Star, with the La Liga giants targeting de Gea as their long term replacement for Iker Casillas.

De Gea is out of contract in the summer of 2016 and has so far been reluctant to discuss an extended deal, with the Spanish international perhaps waiting to see whether United can work their way back into the Champions League under Louis van Gaal this season before committing his future to the Red Devils.

Real signed goalkeeper Keylor Navas from Levante this summer, but manager Carlo Ancelotti has kept faith with long serving number one Iker Casillas, despite the fact that the club legend has struggled for form for quite some time, as was laid bare by his displays for La Roja at the World Cup.

The European champions will also be mindful of the fact that de Gea’s contract situation could allow them to sign him for a relative bargain, bringing de Gea back to the city where he made his name for Real’s bitter rivals Atletico Madrid before making a big money move to Old Trafford.
