The Gunners have long been linked with an interest in the 33 year old and injury concerns over current back up keeper David Ospina will hasten a move from the north London side.

Casillas has moved to quash talk of an imminent Bernabeu exit in recent weeks though this hasn’t dampened Wenger’s interest in the experienced custodian.

On the subject of a possible Real Madrid exit Casillas has stated recently;

He said: “There’s always speculation here but after all the stories, the rumours, I’m still here.

“There’s never been a chance for me to go anywhere else because I’ve never thought about it.

“All the presidents I’ve had have said: ‘The day you don’t want to be here, just come and tell me.’ And I’m still here. It started here and I want it to finish here.”

Though it’s true Arsenal have struggled defensively it’s fair to say that Pole Wojciech Szczesny has been in very decent form this term and as such Wenger’s incessant interest in Casillas is a tad hard to fathom.
