Emirates Stadium side look to land AS Roma star.
Arsenal have reportedly opened informal talks with AS Roma as Arsene Wenger pursues striker Mattia Destro according to the Daily Star.
Wenger’s interest in a fresh striking option is something of a surprise given the sheer number of quality options in his Emirates Stadium squad, with other areas certainly in more dire need of investment, and Destro has recently admitted he could leave the Stadio Olimpico.
The north London side brought in Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck over the summer and welcomed Joel Campbell into the first team set-up after three seasons out on loan. If you then add to that trio injured forward Olivier Giroud, underused German Lukas Podolski and winger Theo Walcott it would appear Wenger has a surfeit of attacking options as it is.
Destro finished last term as AS Roma’s top scorer in Serie A with 13 goals, this despite starting just 14 matches, thus far this term he has continued his limited role in Rudi Garcia’s plans and as such a January move is perhaps inevitable.
Garcia has handed Destro just five Serie A starts this season and even then the 23 year old is once again still the club’s top-scorer.
