The midfielder still has four years left on his contract at Stamford Bridge, but manager Jose Mourinho is keen to reward him with a new deal after he’s carried on his stellar form from last season in to the current campaign.
The 26-year-old has been a key part of the Blues’ unbeaten start in all competitions, playing the full 90 minutes in every Premier League game so far. His partnership with Cesc Fabregas in central midfield has been especially important for the London based side. The Serbian international has also already scored three goals this season.
This has attracted the interest of Spanish giants Real Madrid, who are apparently keeping tabs on the former Benfica player. Chelsea will be keen to ward off any kind of rumours with this bumper new contract.
