Costa and Fabregas were absent for Spain’s recent international fixtures, but were available for Chelsea’s 2-0 win over West Brom on Saturday.

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has recently criticised his compatriots, claiming that they were putting their clubs ahead of their countries, and questioning the severity of their injuries.

Mourinho has taken exception to his remarks however, and his hit back at his former players claiming he has no right to comment on the issue.

“Since I’ve known Sergio Ramos he has been a fantastic football player, but he is not a doctor. He is not a doctor and I am the same,” he said.

“I do my job the best I can but I am not a doctor.

“My doctor and the doctor of the Spanish national team, they had the scans and they decided that the player was not in the condition to play.

“I am nobody to go against it and I don’t think Sergio did a medicine Masters in the last couple of years to understand about it.”

Ramos and Mourinho know each other well from the Portuguese manager’s time in the Spanish capital, so the Spaniard is aware of the tactics that Mourinho employs.

It is also understandable however, that when a player is not one hundred percent fit his manager will want to protect him from aggravating his injuries while on international duty.
