The Cruzeiro midfielder has attracted the attention of a number of top European clubs, with Arsenal thought to be competing with La Liga giants Real Madrid for his signature.

Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti has denied any interest in the Brazilian however, leaving Arsenal with a far clearer run at one of their top targets.

Silva is seen as the defensive midfielder that Arsenal have been lacking for so long, while the hard tackling South American is also in possession of fantastic technical ability.

The youngster was tipped to become a long term replacement for contract rebel Sami Khedira at the Bernabeu. Despite uncertainty over the World Cup winner’s future however, Ancelotti is confident that his team is strong enough and doesn’t need reinforcements in January.

“I’m happy with the squad I’ve got although Khedira has been a little unlucky with a minor problem but Jese’s back. We don’t need to bring in anyone in January,” he said.
