Wenger gives injury update on Arsenal stars ahead of weekend game.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that he is still without six key players ahead of this weekend’s game with Newcastle United in an interview on the club’s official website.
Speaking ahead of the game with Newcastle, Wenger confirmed that he will be without Laurent Koscielny, Nacho Monreal, Mikel Arteta, Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere and Calum Chambers, who is suspended.
However, the manager delivered further bad news by revealing that influential midfielder Aaron Ramsey is a doubt after starring in the side’s Champions League victory over Galatasaray earlier in the week.
“Our main problems are still defensively because Laurent Koscielny (calf from Southampton match) looks like he will not be quite ready, Nacho Monreal (foot) is not back and Calum Chambers is suspended,” he said.
“Mikel Arteta (calf) is not ready and Theo Walcott (groin) is out. Aaron Ramsey (hamstring) will be checked today and tomorrow, so we’ll see.”
He did have some good news, though, as he claimed that injuries to both Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere were not as bad as first feared.
“The signs are quite good. He has had two days of training now but he now lacks competition and fitness to come back to a good level,” he said of Walcott.
On responding to claims that Wilshere had suffered a setback in he own recovery he added: “That’s completely wrong. He’s doing very well. He’s on crutches so I don’t see how he can have a setback.
“It’s frustrating because it’s hard enough for Jack to be injured. He doesn’t need the negative news on top of that. It’s always frustrating to deny things that are not true.”
