As the Daily Mirror explains, the Saints refused to sell to Spurs for £10m in the summer, and placed a new deal worth around £50,000 a week on the table, but the player remains reluctant to sign despite his side’s excellent start to the season.

The source adds that Southampton are increasingly concerned that Schneiderlin is unwilling to commit to a new contract – and that he will leave the club for Tottenham or their North London rivals Arsenal, who can offer Champions League football.

Schneiderlin is currently injured but had been in fine form for the Saints, despite a summer bust-up when he was refused a transfer. Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to make another bid for his former Saints player in January, but faces competition from the Gunners.

Arsene Wenger is keen to sign a midfield anchorman next month, and believes the 25-year-old St. Mary’s star perfectly fits the bill. The player would also be available to play in Europe, having not done so yet this season.
