The 27 year old is strongly linked with a White Hart Lane exit and boss Mauricio Pochettino is looking to find a buyer for the former Ajax man and will apparently demand £17m for his services.
Whilst Arsene Wenger does need defensive reinforcements one wonders just how likely a move between the north London rivals would be, clearly such transfers are few and far between.
On his day Vertonghen is a world-class talent but he has no doubt proved fairly inconsistent over the past 18 months.
The fact that the Spurs man can play at full-back and in the centre of defence, as well as a defensive midfielder at a push, will make him a much wanted commodity and Man United and Liverpool are also said to be keeping tabs on the unsettled Belgian.
Wenger has seen his defensive options well and truly stretched this season with injuries combined with the lack of a replacement for Thomas Vermaelen, who left for Barcelona over the summer, leaving Arsenal having to use the likes of Nacho Monreal and Mathieu Debuchy as makeshift centre-backs with varying degrees of success.
