The German World Cup winner suffered a knee injury during the Gunners’ 2-0 loss against Chelsea in October, and was expected to be out well in to 2015.

He is hoping to return to action sooner than expected however, with his rehabilitation reportedly going well.

“I am working every day to get myself fit and I am on the right path now,” he said.

“It won’t be much too much longer before I am back on the pitch.

“I hope to be back training with the whole team again as soon as possible.”

Arsenal have suffered their usual glut of injuries this season, once again putting a serious dent in their title credentials. Ozil may not have set the Premier League alight since his £42.4m move from Real Madrid, but Wenger will still be glad to have the German star available for selection.

The prospect of Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott playing alongside the 26-year-old is something Gunners fans have long been relishing, with injuries ensuring that none of them ever got any serious pitch time together.

With the North London side currently struggling in sixth place in the Premier League, Wenger will want to see his injury stricken players returning to action as soon as possible.
