The former Manchester City star is believed to be wanted by Serie A giants Napoli in a loan deal until the end of the current season.

And if the Kop giants do decided to axe Balotelli, Rodgers is reportedly eyeing up Paris Saint-Germain’s Ezequiel Lavezzi as a replacement.

Lavezzi is said to be available for a cut price fee of just £8m after being left out of the PSG squad to travel to Marrakech for a warm weather training camp.

The possible return of summer signing Divock Origi from his stint at French side Lille could also facilitate Balotelli’s return to his old stomping ground, but the two sides are still deep in negotiations over an early release.
