The ex-assistant of Sir Alex Ferguson believes that Ronaldo’s connection with Manchester United means he would at least consider any offer made to him by the club.
Arguably the world’s greatest player, the Portuguese star made the switch from Old Trafford to the Bernabeu for a record breaking £80m in 2009. He has been regularly tipped to make a historic return to the Premier League ever since, with United desperate to bring him back to the club that moulded him into the player he is today.
Phelan believes the 29-year-old will remain at Real Madrid for a while longer, but stressed that the pacey forward still has huge love and respect for his old stomping ground.
“Ronaldo loved his time at Manchester United and, if Manchester United were interested in him again, then he would listen to that because part of his career has come through Man United,” he said.
“But listen, he is where he is because of him being Ronaldo and, at the moment, Madrid are successful so I can’t see why he would think about coming back to Manchester United now.”
