Gunners close in on deal to land young Argentine hit man.
Arsenal are reportedly close to wrapping up a deal to sign young Boca Juniors hotshot Jonathan Calleri, according to the Metro.
Calleri has been billed as the ‘new Gonzalo Higuain’ and has popped up on Arsenal’s radar recently with several of the club’s scouts heading over to Argentina to monitor on his development.
Liverpool had been credited with an interest in his services, though they have made no official approach, and now Arsenal are expected to weigh in with a bid of their own in the coming days.
Arsenal apparently expect the transfer to go through before the close of the January transfer window, and despite suggestions he could be loaned out, Calleri would go straight into the first-team setup.
Capable of playing up front or on the wing, the 21-year-old only joined Boca over the summer from fellow Argentine club All Boys.
So far he has bagged six goals in 15 appearances for the Buenos Aires giants.
