Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal is looking to strengthen his defender and is a big admirer of the Borussia Dormund centre-back and will look to complete a £47m deal to snap up the 26 year old.
Given just how far his Westfalenstadion side have sunk, Jurgen Klopp’s side sit in the Bundesliga relegation zone, there is every chance Hummels would look to leave in January and could be tempted by a move to Man United.
Though Man United have improved a great deal of late, going 11 games unbeaten, they are still not all that solid at the back and senior defenders Phil Jones, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling have all struggled with form and fitness leading to Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair being thrown in at the deep end at times this term.
Hummels moved to Dortmund from Bayern Munich in 2008 and help the club to back to back Bundesliga titles before falling a country mile behind their domestic rivals.
