Arsene Wenger claims his record signing Mesut Ozil is ‘hungry’ and wants to make an impact ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Stoke City…
Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil has returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines, and could be set to feature against Stoke City on Sunday.
The German international is raring to go according to Arsene Wenger, and is looking to make a big impact in the second half of the season, as reported by Four Four Two.
The 2014 World Cup winner has been out since October, when he suffered a knee injury during the loss to league leaders Chelsea.
Ozil has struggled since joining the Gunners from Real Madrid, but is hoping to recapture the form he showed in La Liga.
Wenger believes that it can be difficult for players to show motivation and hunger the season after winning a World Cup, but claims the 26-year-old’s layoff has renewed his desire to win.
“It’s a frustrating season for him as he has not contributed yet,” he said.
“It was not a convincing start. He played six games, scored one goal against Aston Villa.
“There is now an opportunity to come back into the team and contribute to the team. When you are a football player you want to play games.
“He is ready. What he is is hungry.”
The North Londoners have endured a difficult season so far, with injuries plaguing them at every turn. Their fortunes finally seem to be changing however, with a number of key players set to return from injury in the coming weeks.
Ozil is unlikely to start against Stoke on Sunday, but should make an appearance at some point.
