The 29 year old French international dislocated his shoulder on Sunday and joins an ever-growing Emirates Stadium injury list which includes with fellow defenders Kieran Gibbs and Calum Chambers.
When asked how the injury would impact on his January transfer window plans Wenger stated;
“Not so much because we were in the market anyway,”
“[Nacho] Monreal and Debuchy can play centre-back but, if Gibbs is not here, Monreal cannot play centre-back and, if Debuchy is not here, he cannot play centre-back.
“This is a position where we are short.”
Arsenal’s win over Stoke City moved the north London side above local rivals Tottenham into fifth place, just a point behind Man United who sit in the last remaining Champions League qualification spot.
Wenger’s side are set to enter a run of difficult fixtures that will see them come up against Man City and Tottenham away sandwiching a home fixture against Aston Villa.
