Divock Origi may be returning to Liverpool sooner than expected with the on-loan striker’s current club, Lille, attempting to sign a replacement.

There were reports earlier this month that Brendan Rodgers wanted to bring the Belgian back from the Ligue 1 side earlier than expected but was told Liverpool would have to both pay a fee and wait for Lille to sign a replacement before any agreement could be struck.

Whilst it was thought that the fee might have been a sticking point, it now appears a re-call for Origi could be on the cards with Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur questioning whether the French side’s attempt to sign Ajax striker Kolbeinn Sightorsson was to replace an outgoing Origi.

The deal to bring the Belgian back would be a strange move from the Reds, especially as his season has hardly been a spectacular one with four goals and two assists in 22 appearances.

If Liverpool were to pay an additional fee, which could be as high as £4.6 million according to some reports, it would mean the five time European Cup winners would have stumped up over £15 million for an inconsistent teenager.
