Radamel Falcao lined up as Luis Suarez replacement.
Liverpool had reportedly struck a £12m deal to sign Radamel Falcao on loan from AS Monaco this summer only for Manchester United to hijack the move, according to the Daily Express.
The Colombian international, who has struggled badly for form since moving to Old Trafford, came close to joining the Reds before instead opting to move to their rivals.
Brendan Rodgers had been keen to sign a replacement for Luis Suarez after his £75m move to Barcelona, and Falcao’s fine form in Ligue 1 and at previous clubs Atletico Madrid and Porto persuaded the Liverpool boss to pounce for him.
Still, Falcao’s dip in form in England suggests the Merseyside giants may have dodged a bullet, with United now unlikely to sign the 28-year-old permanently.
