Arsenal will resist any January bids for in-form Spanish left-back Nacho Monreal as Athletic Bilbao show an interest in him this month, according to the Daily Mail.

The former Malaga man has impressed in recent games for Arsene Wenger’s side, putting in an assured display for the club as they claimed a massive scalp with a 2-0 win away to reigning Premier League champions Manchester City last weekend.

Monreal has done well to keep Kieran Gibbs out of the starting eleven, after recovering well from a poor patch of form when played out of position as a centre-back earlier in the season.

Still, competition for a place with Gibbs had put Athletic Bilbao on alert to his potential availability, but it seems Arsenal will not be consdiering letting him go at this point.

The La Liga side are expected to try again for the 28-year-old in the summer transfer window, but he remains a key part of Wenger’s plans for the moment.
