The Dutchman has been linked to the Red Devils ever since the arrival of Louis van Gaal at the club. However, he was not signed in the summer because of a knee injury, and now he has another problem in the same area.

The Serie A team’s manager Rudi Garcia does not believe he will be out for long, but even so it is unlikely that the Mancunian side will make a move until it is assessed.

“The doctor has seen it and it seems that it isn’t a serious injury,” said the Frenchman. “But with a knee we must always be careful. Let’s see what happens in the next few hours, he has already suffered so much with knee injuries.”

If the problem is more serious than expected then any transfer may have to be completely rethought as the Premier League giants will not want to be signing a player with a dodgy knee. The United career of Owen Hargreaves shows what can happen if an injury prone player is signed without a proper check of his fitness.
