Dirk de Vriese confirmed that PSG have been in direct contact with United about the possibility of signing teenage winger Januzaj, but have been flatly told that he will not be allowed to leave this month either on a permanent basis or a loan deal.

This is despite the fact that Januzaj’s influence has waned this season after an exciting breakthrough campaign under David Moyes, with the teenager largely restricted to substitute appearances and starting berths in the cup competitions.

His performance in the disappointing FA Cup draw at Cambridge United on Friday night seemed to typify his frustrating campaign so far, so it is some surprise that de Vriese has suggested that van Gaal described Januzaj as an “important player” in his comments:

“They directly contacted Manchester United for information. Louis van Gaal announced that he cannot leave this winter. Not as a permanent transfer nor as a loan. ”

“The coach considers him as an important player for squad. He is counting on everyone. It seems like a definitive decision, I don’t think that it can change.”
