United to pounce for big-money La Liga signing.
In what could be a double blow for Arsenal, as their failed pursuit of Valencia left-back Jose Luis Gaya could mean Manchester United land Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao, according to the Daily Express.
The Red Devils have been linked with the Portuguese international in the past, and now look to be on alert for him again this January as Real work on a deal to beat the Gunners to the purchase of Gaya in that part of the pitch.
The Spaniard looks a terrific prospect after some fine performances at the Mestalla this season, and Los Blancos now hope to bring him in as an understudy to Marcelo at the Bernabeu.
United will surely benefit if Coentrao is made available, with Louis van Gaal keen on the £25m-rated full-back, who can also operate as a midfielder and who would be a great fit in the Dutchman’s 3-5-2 formation.
The Gunners recently signed both Gabriel Paulista and Krystian Bielik, but are seemingly still on the lookout for more signings this month.
