The Scotland international has been strongly linked with an exit from the Red Devils this winter, having fallen out of favour at the club after a long spell out of action through illness in recent years.

Fletcher had been targeted by West Ham United before a move fell through, but West Brom manager Tony Pulis is also keen on his services and could try a last-gap move for the 31-year-old.

The Scot has spent his entire career so far at Old Trafford, and had been a key player for the club under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson – who was known for trusting his side’s youth team graduates.

Still, sickness problems have seen Fletcher play just 34 Premier League games in the last four seasons, and the big-spending approach of Louis van Gaal in the transfer market has seen other midfielders move ahead of him in the pecking order.
