A report by the Daily Mail says the extent of the injury is not yet known; however, there are fears at the club that the Argentine may have suffered a recurrence of the problem that saw him miss three matches over the busy festive fixture list.
After injuring his pelvis on Christmas Eve, the former Real Madrid man missed games against Newcastle United, Stoke City and Tottenham – a period where the Red Devils managed to gain just five points from a possible nine.
Despite failing to impress once again, Di Maria seemed uninhibited last night in United’s 3-1 win over Preston North End in the FA Cup, suggesting that the injury is a fresh problem.
However, if he proves absent for a similar period of time as his previous pelvis problem he could miss fixtures against Swansea City and Sunderland.
United will be hoping the issue is not too serious with Louis van Gaal’s side getting set to confirm their place in the top four, Champions League places whilst preparing for a FA Cup quarter final with cup holders Arsenal in two weeks time.
