Not what we needed after this week…

Two fans were arrested for racist chanting following a Championship match just days after the widely reported racial abuse by Chelsea fans of a black commuter.

During Brighton’s 4-3 win over Birmingham City, it has been reported that one fan was arrested for racist chanting whilst another was held by Police for throwing a smoke bomb onto the pitch.

A local police officer, Chief Insepctor Simon Nelson tweeted after the game confirming the incident with the racist chanting said to be by a suspected Brighton fan.

The incident comes just days after Chelsea fans were filmed racially abusing a black man, pushing him off a train and chanting racial slurs at him before the Blues match with Paris Saint Germain.

The widely condemned affair has raised the question of racism in English football once but this latest instance will do little to temper fears it is an issue that is still rife.
