Van Gaal’s top target will cost over £40m.
Manchester United have been told to pay more than £40m to sign Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Marquinhos in the summer transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.
The Brazilian youngster is one of the most highly regarded young defensive players in the game at the moment, and was strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford in January.
Marquinhos first caught the eye at AS Roma prior to joining PSG, but has recently lost his place in Laurent Blanc’s starting lineup, leading to speculation he could move.
United are desperate to make a big signing in defence, and may now have to pay more than the record-breaking fee for a defender that brought Rio Ferdinand to the club back in 2002.
