Following the injury Hugo Lloris sustained in action for Tottenham Hotspur against Leicester City at the weekend, an opportunity opened up for another goalkeeper to join squad regulars Steve Mandanda and Stephane Ruffier.

Deschamps opted for Stade Rennais keeper Benoit Costil, overlooking other contenders such as MHSC’s Jourdren.

However, speaking to France Bleu Herault, as reported by L’Equipe, Jourdren has slammed Deschamps’s decision and claimed that he is a better bet than Costil.

“I believe that this season I am better than Bentoi Costil, without any pretension,” Jourdren began,”I should go, but my personality means that the door is closed to me.

“People are afraid that I will let loose or whatever. I need to recognise, for the rest of my career, that that’s the way it is.

“However, this France national team is a dream for me.”

Jourdren has one cap for France’s U21 side but is yet to make the step up to the senior side.
