Chelsea are thought to be interested in signing Luka Modric from Real Madrid as he looks set to have his place in the team taken by Paul Pogba, reports the Daily Express.

The Croatia international has been a key part of Carlo Ancelotti’s team at the Bernabeu. However, with the club looking likely to sign Juventus’ Pogba for £80 million their Galactico policy looks set to force him out. As fellow central midfielder Toni Kroos was only brought in last summer it is unlikely he would be pushed out so soon.

The Express thinks Los Blancos are likely to sign the 22-year-old as Manchester United and Man City are making other transfers their priority. The report states that the Red Devils are more interested in Wolfsburg’s Kevin De Bruyne, while the Citizens prefer Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere.

With Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic playing so well together this season, it is unknown how Modric would fit in to Jose Mourinho’s starting XI. He may end up playing a more attacking role than he currently does at Real.
