The 23-year-old was named as the club’s Player of the Month for March after a string of excellent performances.

He scored for Montpellier against OGC Nice at the beginning of the month, and followed that up with an assist for Lucas Barrios in MHSC’s 5-1 defeat at the hands of Olympique Lyonnais the week after.

The Marseille-born star was also particularly impressive against Evian Thonon Gaillard.

To date this season, the Malian has registered 13 starts in Ligue 1, scoring twice and contributing two assists.

He has also demonstrated his versatility—featuring as a right-back and a right midfielder, as well as in his primary position as an anchor man.

“Considering where I came from at the beginning of the campaign, I think that my season has been a success, definitely,” he began, speaking to Montpellier’s official website.

“People have been waiting for me to show my qualities and I think that’s what I’m doing,” he continued.

“I’ve lived through some difficult times and I am really proud to be here today, even if I know I must progress and work a lot.

“I am satisfied, but I know that I can and I must still do more.”

Montpellier continue their Ligue 1 campaign with a home clash against SC Bastia on Saturday evening. MHSC have struggled to find the consistency to truly push for the top five, and with eight games to go they sit seven points off AS Saint-Etienne in fifth.
