The 30 year old joined Real Madrid from Manchester United in 2009 for what was then a world record fee of £80 million. Since moving to the Spanish capital, he has played 287 games in all competitions (including tonight), and has now scored 300 goals – an average of 1.04 per game.

His 300th strike came via a header from a Daniel Carvajal cross in the 68th minute – a goal which gave Real the lead against their cross-city rivals Rayo Vallecano. They are currently winning 2-0 after James Rodriguez doubled their lead 5 minutes later.

There has been ongoing speculation about how much longer he will be playing at the Berbabeu. He has been heavily linked with a move to the MLS at the end of his contract, while reports in England suggest Manchester United are keen to bring their former legend back to Old Trafford.
