Arsenal legend tips former side to end Chelsea hoodoo

Arsenal legend Charlie Nicholas has tipped his former side to end their hoodoo against Chelsea on Sunday as the top two meet at the Emirates Stadium in a game which could effectively end, or reignite, the title race, Sky Sports report.

Arsenal’s record against the champions-elect is horrific and the fact that Arsene Wenger has never beaten Jose Mourinho compounds the issue, but Nicholas expects that all to change this weekend.

10 points separate the two sides with a win for Arsenal setting up a possible exciting finish to the Premier League season as Wenger aims for a third league and cup double.

“It’s high time that Wenger and Arsenal proved a point against Chelsea – I just think it’s Arsene Wenger’s time to say ‘we are getting closer’,” Nicholas said.

“Chelsea are going to be champions, even if Arsenal win this, but this is the first time in a long time I’ve gone into a Chelsea match thinking Arsenal will adapt to whatever happens.

“They need to win the game to make it interesting, but at the same time they don’t want to get caught out in the first half-hour of the match, because when Chelsea go in front, they don’t lose.”

Mourinho’s tactics against Manchester United should give Wenger a hint of what’s to come when the Blues visit the Emirates Stadium with a draw being a perfect result for the league leaders.

Effectively a six-pointer, Chelsea can afford to lose but would be in danger of handing Arsenal added incentive in their quest to reduce the gap.
