The 23-year-old has been in superb form for Sporting since becoming a first-team regular last season, and has been tracked by a host of top clubs since then.
Arsenal are one of Carvalho’s biggest admirers, particularly with Arsene Wenger known to be in the market for a quality new signing in the defensive midfield department, and it looks like he has now switched his focus back to the Portugal international.
Although Francis Coquelin has impressed since becoming a regular for the Gunners, there still looks to be some need for a replacement for players like Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere, who have under-performed this season whilst also looking injury prone.
If reports in the Metro are to be believed, a £21.5m deal for a player of Carvalho’s quality would be a great deal for Arsenal.
