Real Madrid Castilla coach Zinedine Zidane has been granted the UEFA Pro Licence badge, and is therefore now able to coach at the highest level in football.
This was the final obstacle in the football icon’s pursuit of managing a top club – and means that he could now rival Carlo Ancelotti for his first-team position with the Spanish giants.
Zidane wrote on his official Instagram account, ‘Very proud to complete and receive my UEFA Pro Licence today. Mission accomplished.’
According to Sky Sports, Zidane could take over from Ancelotti in the Santiago Bernabeu dugout.
The Italian’s job is under threat with Los Blancos following their inconsistent form this term – and failure in the Champions League could be the decider in whether the former Chelsea boss remains in charge next season.
The report also claims that the former France international been mooted as a potential replacement to Marseille boss Marcelo Bielsa if he leaves the Stade Velodrome in the summer.
The badge comes seven months after the France legend was handed a three-month coaching suspension by the Spanish Football Federation for managing a team without the required qualifications.
