Much was expected of the Real Madrid wideman when he arrived at Old Trafford in the summer, particularly as he arrived on the back of a Champions League-winning campaign with Real Madrid.

However, despite the great expectations, Di Maria has struggled in the Premier League. In 26 top-flight outings, he has managed just three goals and contributed 10 assists.

His form has prompted derision from United supporters, both in the ground and on social media.

The player has been linked with a move away from the club this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain—who attempted to buy Di Maria a year ago—believed to be keen on take him to the Parc des Princes.

According to the Metro, the French giants are considering a loan move for the 27-year-old.

However, as reported by Le 10 Sport, van Gaal has recommended that Di Maria remains at Manchester United for another season.

“I think that Di Maria should stay,” the former Netherlands boss began, “and work hard.

“I am delighted with his attitude, that is not the problem,” he concluded, “it’s up to the player to choose, we are waiting for him to make a decision.”
