Real Madrid star and Man United transfer target on the brink of signing contract

Sergio Ramos looks to be closing in on a new deal at Real Madrid, as rumours linking him with a summer transfer to Manchester United begin to diminish.

The defender has been heavily tipped to switch to Old Trafford this summer, with Louis van Gaal believed to have targeted the versatile stopper as he looks to reinforce his defence [Independent], while the player had reportedly reached a contract impasse with Real [The Guardian].

Ramos was also understood to be taking English lessons in potential preparation for a move to the Premier League [Independent], while United had been tipped to be his next destination, following revelations that the player’s father is a Red Devils supporter [Daily Mail].

There has also been the possibility that Ramos may move to Manchester as part of any deal taking David De Gea to the Bernabeu [Daily Mail].

However, Marca [according to the Mirror], van Gaal’s hopes of bringing the World Cup winning defender to Manchester look to be slim.

The tabloid report that the defender is on the brink of signing a new contract extension with Real, having patched up his relationship with club president Florentino Perez.

Ramos has only two years left on his current deal, and should be extend his contract at the Spanish capital, the player may well be in line to achieve his dream of seeing out his career with Real [ESPN].

It remains to be seen whether United—who have already had a £28.6 million offer for the player rejected [Express]—will look to move again for the world-class stopper.
