Arsenal to unveil Benzema today: Shirt number assigned, £48m fee agreed and signing almost complete

Emirates Stadium side ready to welcome in big-money addition.

Arsenal will reportedly unveil Karim Benzema as a new signing today according to Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli.

The same source states that the 27-year-old will be handed the number nine shirt…

The Daily Telegraph claims Real Madrid have accepted a £48m offer from the North London side.

It’s worth noting that Benzema was left out of Real Madrid’s match-day squad for their opening La Liga fixture of the season, against Sporting Gijon, and Rafa Benitez’s side drew a blank in that fixture which could leave the Spanish giants realising just how important a member of their Bernabeu squad the French international really is.

By all accounts however Benzema’s absence was down to a niggling thigh injury whilst other reports cover comments made by the forward’s agent, stating that his client is going nowhere.

Arsene Wenger would do well to bring in a prolific forward to form the spear-head of his Gunners attack and Benzema, with 133 goals in six seasons in the Spanish capital, fits the bill and would appear to be a genuine target though the chances of a deal being complete before the transfer window slams shut next week seem slim.
