Cristiano Ronaldo transfer update: Ancelotti refuses to rule out Manchester United switch

Former Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has expressed his conviction that Cristiano Ronaldo will end his career at the Bernabeu, but has refused to rule out a move to Manchester United.

The Portuguese superstar has been linked with a transfer away from the Spanish capital in recent times, with both a switch to Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain and a return to Old Trafford having been mooted [Telegraph].

Super agent Jorge Mendes, speaking to Canal Plus recently [as per Le 10 Sport], confirmed that Ronaldo is not looking to leave Real and plans to be at the Spanish capital for some time yet.

“Will Cristiano Ronaldo sign for PSG?” Mendes began. “No, it’s impossible. He will finish his career at Real Madrid.”

However, while Ancelotti largely supports Mendes’s opinion, he hasn’t completely ruled out a switch away from the club.

“In football, anything can happen,” the Italian coach began, speaking to RMC [as per Le 10 Sport]. “But I think that Cristiano will finish his career at Real. He’s an important player for Real. He was, and he still is, and he still will be.

“For all of that, I think that Real can’t let Ronaldo go,” he continued, “but if he thinks that it’s the right moment to leave the club, Paris would certainly be a good solution.”

According to The Sun, Louis van Gaal has confirmed that he would be interested in bringing Ronaldo back to Old Trafford.

The Dutch coach had the following to say about the possibility of signing the Merengues star: “We are looking at all players, not just Ronaldo. But these players are mostly ungettable.

“With Ronaldo, let’s wait and hope. There is no trainer in the world that doesn’t like him.”

According to Mundo Deportivo [via the Daily Express], an unnamed Barcelona player has added weight to the transfer rumours, by suggesting that Ronaldo was not happy with the way things are going at Real and was keen for an exit.
