Video: Indy Boonen goal v Middlesbrough – Man United prodigy beautifully supplies Belgian’s volley

Two of Manchester United’s brightest young talents combined to light up their U18 match against Middlesbrough this afternoon with a sublime goal.

Fifteen-year-old prodigy Angel Gomes skilfully teed up Belgian teenager Indy Boonen for a well-taken volley which gave the Red Devils a 1-0 half-time lead.

The finish from Boonen was very smart, striking the ball first time over his shoulder, but the vision from Gomes and the confidence to execute that chipped pass was even more special.

Attacking midfielder Gomes is very highly regarded inside Old Trafford and has been fast-tracked into United’s Under-18s as well as England’s Under-16 setup.

How United fans crave for this sort of creativity in their impotent first team, who have drawn 0-0 in four of their last seven home games in all competitions.

Louis van Gaal will hope that the return of Wayne Rooney for his 500th appearance for the club will inspire a flurry of goals against Norwich City today.

Will Rooney play with either Gomes or Boonen before his career at United winds down? Judging by this evidence, both certainly have a chance of making the grade.
